1. a period of time to feed your soul and truly give back to yourself
  2. a personal retreat to discover exactly what your body, heart and spirit need

Marittie de Villiers has been on a roller coaster ride for the past four years.  As a divorced mother of two, full time painter, woman and human being it has been a constant challenge trying to keep all the balls in the air.   Her course was set on a journey of painting as much as she wants, travelling abroad, moving house quite a few times, socialising and dreaming BIG.  Her soulbatical in preparing for this solo exhibition has taken her on a journey deciding on quality, rather than quantity, of everything in life.

She was born in Springs, Gauteng and graduated from the North West University with a BA Communications degree.  After working as a journalist for a few years, she sailed to the Americas and Caribbean for three years and wrote about her travelling adventures.  These were published in magazines.  Her two daughters were born in the Caribbean.  After returning to South Africa in 2003, Marittie started painting full time and has exhibited at various well known galleries throughout South Africa.  She is a self-taught artist.  Her portrait, Antonia, entered for the SANLAM Portrait Awards in 2015, was selected under the Top 100.  She was also awarded for her contribution to Visual Art on a National and International level by the North West University.

Her solo exhibition opens on Thursday, 20 October 2016 at 18:00 for 18:30.  Entry is free and open for all.  The Tank Art Gallery is open for viewing on weekdays from 09:00 to 17:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 15:00.  The exhibition concludes on Monday, 21 November 2016.  As the gallery is located inside Stellenbosch Hills Wines, visitors also have the opportunity to taste the wines available at the cellar.

We look forward to welcoming you to The Tank Art Gallery.
